protective custody

Protective custody was a measure used by the security police of the Nazi regime to suppress opposition. Under corresponding laws, the Gestapo could arbitrarily arrest people and have them taken to a concentration camp if these individuals, in the Gestapo's eyes, were a threat to the "existence and security of the German people and the German state."
